Tragedy Strikes at Kingston Football Match: Four Identified in Mass Shooting

October 22, 2024

Kingston, Jamaica — An ordinary National Heroes Day turned tragic when a mass shooting erupted during a football match in the community of Pleasant Heights, Rockfort. The incident left the community in shock as police confirmed the identities of four out of the five men killed in the attack.

The victims were named as Ortavia Austin, aged 51, and his 29-year-old son, Okero Austin. Alongside them, 32-year-old Odane Josephs, also known as Bones, and 38-year-old Rosrick Tomas, referred to as Teniel, lost their lives during what was supposed to be a day of celebration and camaraderie.

While the community grapples with the horror of this event, numerous individuals also sustained injuries during the attack. Preliminary reports indicate that the gunfire erupted in the midst of a local football match, leaving many to run for cover as gunmen indiscriminately targeted attendees.

In the wake of the shooting, videos capturing the chaotic and heart-wrenching aftermath quickly flooded social media platforms, amplifying the urgent calls for peace and justice throughout the region.

As the investigation continues, law enforcement authorities have imposed a curfew on Rockfort in an effort to maintain order and aid in their search for the perpetrators of this heinous act. Police urge anyone with information to come forward to assist in their ongoing investigation.

Further updates on this devastating incident will be provided by Observer Online as more information becomes available. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims and the community of Rockfort during this difficult time.
