Nairobi, Kenya – Eight bodies, all women, have been recovered from a rubbish dump in a Nairobi slum, Kenya’s acting police chief, Douglas Kanja, announced on Sunday.
“The bodies were badly mutilated and in various states of decomposition, each placed in a bag and left at the site,” Kanja reported during a news conference. An investigation into this horrific discovery is ongoing.
The first six bodies were found on Friday, followed by parts of two more women’s bodies on Saturday.
“I want to assure the public that we are committed to conducting a transparent, thorough, and prompt investigation,” Kanja stated. He also called for public cooperation to help bring the perpetrators of these heinous acts to justice.
Kanja assumed his role this week after the resignation of the national police chief, Japhet Koum, who stepped down following public outrage over the deaths of protesters in anti-government demonstrations last month.
