Food Awards judge Kadean Vendryes checks out The Coppers.
Colloquially known as “The Coppers”, the restaurant has a bar and two restaurants, The Cellar and The Coppers, in a great location at 9 Haining Road in New Kingston. Opening hours are Tuesday to Saturday 12pm to 10pm, Sunday 12pm to 10pm, closed on Mondays. Walk-in is available, but reservations are highly recommended, especially for larger groups and on weekends.
The bar serves a wide range of expertly crafted drinks including vodka, rum, whiskey/brandy, tequila, gin, wine, prosecco based cocktails and non-alcoholic mocktails. My all-time favourites are the “Nojitos”, non-alcoholic fruit mojitos such as passion fruit and strawberry, and more recently the lychee lemonade. There are two food menus to choose from: The Cellar and The Coppers. Both menus offer delicious “international Jamaican fine cuisine”.
My guest and I enjoyed a memorable evening in the Copper Garden Oasis, with soft music playing, a giant mango tree in the center of the garden, colorful bougainvillea blooming in a vibrant outdoor setting, and the following appetizers tantalized our taste buds: Lobster Club Queso with Garlic Crostini, Firecracker Buffalo Wings (warning: very spicy!) and fries, Asian Vegetable Spring Rolls, and Braised Oxtail Tacos.
Cocktails and beers like French 75, Passion Fruit Mojito, Paloma, Floradora, Guinness and Lychee Lemonade Mocktails enhanced the dining experience. We were really pleased with the warm hospitality of our waitress, Kemona. It was our guests’ first time at The Coppers and they started asking us when we would visit again. The value for money was above our expectations and everyone was happy.
