Final Standoff: Fugitive Daniel McIntosh Shot Dead in St. James Police Raid
The law finally caught up with 24-year-old fugitive Daniel McIntosh, who was shot and killed during a reported confrontation with the police in Mazeland, Cambridge, St. James early Tuesday morning.
McIntosh, of Pedlars Lane in Mount Salem, was one of five inmates who escaped from the Barnett Street lock-up in Montego Bay on December 14, 2024. At the time of his escape, he was facing charges including possession of a prohibited weapon.
Reports from the police indicate that around 3:30 a.m., lawmen armed with a search warrant descended on a house in Mazeland in search of McIntosh and other wanted men. After announcing their presence and hearing movement inside, officers forced entry and allegedly found McIntosh armed with a firearm.
The police claim McIntosh pointed an AK-47 rifle at them, prompting them to open fire. When the dust settled, McIntosh was found wounded, still clutching the rifle loaded with four 7.62 rounds. He was rushed to Cornwall Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A firearm and ammunition were seized from the scene, and investigations have been launched by INDECOM and the Inspectorate of Professional Standards Oversight Bureau.
McIntosh is the third of the five Barnett Street escapees to be killed in police operations.
- Edgar Spence was killed just hours after the jailbreak in Valley Heights, near Green Pond.
- Tyrese Brown, the most notorious of the escapees — charged with the rape and murder of 15-year-old Jamila Cole — was shot dead by police on December 19, 2024.
Still on the run are:
- Maurice Belnavis, 43, of Greens Paradise, West St. James, charged with simple larceny
- Tidel Ferguson, 36, of Mountain View, Greenwood, indicted for larceny
Both men reportedly fled the lock-up in a waiting motor vehicle and remain at large. Police continue their islandwide manhunt as the community of Montego Bay remains on edge.
