The certification was issued last Thursday, acknowledging the remix’s achievement of 250,000 units in sales and streaming equivalent. “Hotstepper” was released in April through WEA/Warner Music France, showcasing the talents of Trinix, which consists of Josh Chergui and Lois Serre. The duo, formed 12 years ago, has found success in various European countries such as Germany, Russia, and Poland.
Originally released in 1994 as the lead single from Ini Kamoze’s album of the same name, “Here Comes the Hotstepper” has enjoyed widespread success worldwide. The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for two weeks in December 1994 and was featured in the film Pret-A-Porter. It has also received gold certification in Germany, platinum in Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, and double platinum in the United States.
In addition to its chart-topping success, “Here Comes the Hotstepper” made the top ten in 13 countries and reached number one in Zimbabwe, Denmark, and New Zealand. Earlier this year, the original version of the song saw a resurgence in popularity when it was featured in a Starbucks commercial promoting the newly released Refreshers.
