KINGSTON, Jamaica— In a heartening gesture of community support, Flow Foundation on Friday distributed $1 million in vouchers to students residing in Junction, St Elizabeth. The initiative is part of a larger relief effort to help the community recover from the devastating impacts of Hurricane Beryl.
In a unified show of support, the Flow Foundation collaborated with the JPS Foundation and the Digicel Foundation to host the community event at BB Coke High School under the theme “Connected Life.” The back-to-school relief event, held on Friday, August 9, also included distribution of essential school supplies, medical check-ups, and grooming services, aiming to ease the financial burdens faced by parents during this critical period.
A day of Fun and Community Support
The event was more than just a relief initiative; it was a community celebration. Residents enjoyed an Olympics watch party, while children participated in a fun-filled day with games and rides, bringing a sense of normalcy and joy amidst challenging times. Other notable partners included Food for the Poor, the National Water Commission, and the HEART/NSTA Trust, who added their support to ensure the success of the event.
“Immediately after the storm passed, Flow, along with JPS and Digicel, were on the ground supporting families to recover from the storm’s impact,” shared Danielle Savory, Senior Manager of Communications at Flow. “This event is particularly special for us as it demonstrates our continued commitment to the St Elizabeth community. We want to provide even more support for families as they work to get their children ready for school, despite the significant challenges they still face.”
Savory emphasized the importance of collaboration in the recovery process, stating, “The collaborative spirit demonstrated by all the partners is a direct response to the needs of the community. We are committed to help make every day better for the people of St Elizabeth, and we hope that the families who benefited today can continue to improve their lives, one day at a time.”
Technological and Community Support
Adding to the day’s highlights, Flow Foundation ensured the provision of hi-speed internet, enabling convenient online access for all patrons. A Flow charging station and engaging giveaways of phones and tablets bolstered the event’s appeal, offering residents valuable resources to stay connected.
Celebrating its 20th year, the Flow Foundation remains dedicated to nation-building through technology, meaningful partnerships, and community-driven initiatives. The foundation’s commitment to making a positive impact was clearly evident in Friday’s event, underscoring its ongoing mission to connect communities and change lives in Jamaica.
As the residents of Junction, St Elizabeth continue their recovery journey, the collaborative efforts of Flow, JPS, Digicel, and other partners shine as a beacon of hope and resilience, reinforcing the strength and unity of the Jamaican community.
