Jamaica Observer’s Table Talk Food Awards judge, Stacey Belnavis, visited FitMeals and More and shares her dining experience.
FitMeals and More is a health-conscious restaurant concept that combines nutritious and delicious meals. Founded with a passion for food and the desire to promote health through food, FitMeals was created to provide healthy meal options for busy people. The journey began with Tanya Ramson, who studied culinary arts and business management and understood the profound impact food can have on health and wellness. Despite her expertise, Ramson had struggled to lose weight for some time, which was the driving force behind her determination to create a solution for herself and others facing similar challenges.
FitMeals’ humble beginnings can be traced back to her backyard, which she converted into a kitchen where she first began preparing meals for delivery.
As demand grew, she realized she needed additional staffing, and so she hired the first member of her team, Abigail Boyd, who has contributed greatly to the growth of the business and is still with the FitMeals team today, reflecting her strong focus and ethos on consistency and customer service.
The company then relocated to a small kitchen space in Seymour Park, offering takeaway and delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic. The healthy and flavoursome meals proved popular and a permanent location was subsequently established at 80 Lady Musgrave Road. This enabled Lamson and his team to also offer dine-in options, creating an even more engaging and enjoyable experience for customers. FitMeals’ popularity continues to grow due to its commitment to quality and innovation. Each dish is meticulously crafted to meet high nutritional standards while pleasing the palate. The restaurant offers a variety of meals every day, including options for a variety of dietary preferences and restrictions, including a high protein, low carbohydrate (HPLC) option. Fellow judge Patricia Henry joined them for lunch.
menu:
•Goat soup
Grilled Chicken/Pork Quesadillas
• Chicken/Shrimp Oriental Salad (including red onion, lettuce, kale, cucumber, red cabbage, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, bean sprouts, and pak choi), sesame ginger dressing
Jerk Chicken
Side dishes include brown rice and peas or roasted sweet potatoes.
Every dish was full of flavour, adhered to the prescribed healthy portion sizes and we had ours with kombucha – the food did not disappoint.
•The jerk chicken with sweet potatoes was super tender and cooked in their special sauce, leaving me wanting more.
•The shrimp oriental salad, with Lamson’s special dressing recipe, was a big hit.
•The chicken quesadilla was the perfect amount and extra filling.
•Food Awards judge Patricia Henry went on to praise the goat soup, which she said tasted reminiscent of soup made on a coal stove.
Lamson surprised us with their infamous yam salad, which is one of my favorite sides. An iced blue spirulina latte made with oat milk rounded off the meal perfectly. We were in food heaven! We saw patrons receiving their orders immediately. We didn’t even have to wait for our food. FitMeals is another healthy, tasty, and affordable dining option in Kingston. Perfect for those on the go or those who want to dine in and experience efficient service. The food and customer service was impeccable and highly recommended.
