Transport Minister Daryl Vaz said he will sign a ministerial decree for the Toll Authority to allow free travel on the East-West and North-South Expressways from 6pm on Tuesday until midnight.
Vaz said the decision came as Jamaicans rushed to make final preparations before Hurricane Beryl made landfall on Wednesday, resulting in congested roads.
“This is to help people travel, especially with congested roads and last-minute arrangements that need to be made. We want people to use the highways to get home faster and safer and prepare for the approaching hurricane,” he said.
Beryl is approaching Jamaica as a powerful Category 4 hurricane and is expected to take a direct hit.
