KINGSTON, Jamaica — Mayor of Kingston and St. Andrew, Andrew Swaby, said the Kingston and St. Andrew City Council has successfully relocated homeless people to shelters in the parish in preparation for the passage of Hurricane Beryl.
Swaby was visiting several areas in a last-ditch effort to evacuate Jamaicans in disaster-prone areas to safety.
Swaby said efforts to relocate homeless people have been successful so far, noting that a variety of shelters are being used, including a temporary facility on Church Street just above KSAMC, the Desmond McKenzie Transitional Centre and the Denhamtown Golden Age Home.
“There are 32 men here where I am. They have been given a chance to bathe, they have been provided with clothes and now they are waiting for their food,” Swaby said.
