The event, created to celebrate World Electric Vehicle Day, featured the latest EV vehicles from major brands on display, as well as the support systems surrounding them. Patrons, including EV enthusiasts, gathered to explore the newest offerings, learn about new EV technologies and companies, share their experiences, and enjoy the music and food available at the venue.
Wayne McKenzie, president & CEO of Evergo, expressed his satisfaction with the event and the growing interest in EVs among Jamaicans. He highlighted the positive impact of dealers stepping up to support the transition to electric vehicles in the country.
One of the key aspects of the event was the sense of camaraderie and the community being built among EV users in Jamaica. McKenzie emphasized the importance of this growing network of EV enthusiasts and users who are helping to drive the adoption of electric vehicles in the country.
Despite challenges such as infrastructure limitations and the recent impact of Hurricane Beryl, McKenzie noted that Evergo has seen an increase in the use of its charging network. He highlighted the resilience of the network, the improved range of modern EVs, and the efforts to address shortcomings in the island’s electricity supply.
Looking ahead, Evergo users can expect higher charging speeds with the introduction of Blueberry chargers and upgrades to 150kWh in collaboration with Jamaica Public Service. McKenzie shared his excitement about the increasing demand for charging stations and the growing usage of EVs in Jamaica.
