Eltham High School and Hydel High School are set to face off in a crucial clash in the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup match at the Homestead Community Centre. The match is scheduled for today at 3:00 pm and will determine the top spot in Group A.
Eltham High School, who are currently undefeated this season, lead the group with 21 points, three points ahead of Hydel High School. A win or draw for Eltham will secure their position at the top of the group. Both teams have already secured a spot in the second round of the competition. Following closely behind them in the group standings are Dunoon, Clan Carthy, and Ardenne, all with six points each.
Eltham High School, under the guidance of coach Gregory Allen, has been impressive this season, scoring 32 goals while maintaining a clean sheet in all seven matches they have played so far. This record makes them the only team in the Manning Cup competition to not concede a goal this season.
Hydel High School, last year’s runners-up, will be looking to avenge their earlier 2-0 loss to Eltham this season. In order to secure the top spot in the group, Hydel will need to defeat Eltham by a margin of 4-0. Despite also scoring 32 goals, Hydel has conceded three goals in their seven matches this season.
Hydel’s Head Coach, Devon Anderson, has emphasized the importance of putting on a strong performance in today’s match as they prepare for the upcoming second round of the competition. Anderson expressed confidence in his team’s ability to learn from their previous loss to Eltham and deliver an improved performance.
“We are expecting a hard-fought game because we never say die mentally and every time we go out, we go out there with one thing on our mind and that is to do our best,” said Anderson. “We have identified our mistakes from the first game against Eltham and have worked on correcting them. The team is ready to showcase a much better performance in today’s match.”
The showdown between Eltham and Hydel promises to be an exciting and competitive fixture, with both teams vying for the top spot in Group A. Fans can expect an intense battle on the field as these two powerhouse schools go head-to-head in pursuit of victory.
