ST MARY, Jamaica – In a significant crackdown aimed at curbing crime in St Mary, police authorities conducted a targeted operation in Port Maria on Friday, leading to the arrest of eighteen individuals. The operation, which has been described as methodical and focused, was led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kevin Francis.
Among those detained, two were arrested on charges related to ganja offenses, while the remaining sixteen were apprehended based on existing warrants. The extensive operation saw collaboration between local police forces and the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB), targeting high-risk suspects across various parts of the parish.
DSP Francis provided insights into the operation, revealing that it was part of a broader strategy to tackle crime and increase safety in St Mary. “The police carried out targeted raids across the parish with the support of police personnel from PSTEB where high-risk targets were pursued,” he explained.
The law enforcement efforts in St Mary are far from over, with more operations anticipated in the coming months. DSP Francis sought to reassure the public of ongoing police dedication to maintaining law and order. “We will continue our effort to serve and protect the people of the parish of St Mary while assuring law-abiding citizens and business interests. We encourage our citizens to report strange persons entering their communities so that there can be a partnership between residents and the police,” he stated.
This collaborative approach aims to foster greater community involvement in crime prevention, ensuring a safer environment for all residents.
