A man narrowly escaped serious injury when the car he was driving struck a fallen utility pole in New Forest, south of Manchester, on Tuesday night.
Alligator Pond ward councillor Omar Robinson is calling on the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPSCo) to remove downed utility poles in the area.
“As I have reported many times since Hurricane Beryl, we have received reports that a silver Axio has been stuck in one of the fallen JPS poles and has been scrapped. I plead with JPS to clear the road. A young man from Comma Pen nearly got into an accident last night. Thankfully he escaped injury but his car is a total loss. I hope that nothing more happens in the area,” Robinson told Observer Online.
“I have yet to see JPS come in to remove any poles in the Alligator Pond area. One pole is a short distance from New Forest School and could fall at any time. People continue to use this road to get to their homes and to their workplaces so I would ask JPS again to come and clear the road. I know we may not get electricity back straight away but at least clear the main road into Alligator Pond,” he added.
