Jamaica’s Under-14 football team, known as the young Reggae Boyz, emerged victorious in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under-14 Tier 1 Challenge tournament. In a stunning comeback, the team defeated French Guiana 7-1 in the final match held at the Dwight York Stadium in Trinidad on August 25, 2024.
The young Jamaican players, coached by Andrew Peart, put on a dominant display in the second half of the match after trailing at halftime. Carlondo Morris scored a hat-trick, while Kelvin DJ Brown netted a brace to secure the impressive victory. This win marked Jamaica’s sixth triumph in the tournament, where they showcased their prowess by scoring 25 goals and conceding only two throughout the competition.
Individual accolades also went to the Jamaican team, with Marcodean Spence named the best goalkeeper, Brown awarded the top goal scorer, and Davion Clarke recognized as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament. The team’s performance was truly exceptional, and they were rightfully rewarded for their hard work and dedication.
In the final against French Guiana, Matheo Francois opened the scoring for the opposition in the 21st minute. However, Jamaica quickly turned the game around in the second half, with Brown and Morris leading the charge. Brown’s equalizer and Morris’s subsequent goals showcased the team’s attacking prowess and determination to secure the title.
With two late goals from substitutes Samuel Taylor and Jaedan Brown-Hanniford, Jamaica sealed their emphatic 7-1 victory and clinched the CFU Under-14 Tier 1 Challenge championship. The young Reggae Boyz’s outstanding performance and teamwork earned them well-deserved praise and recognition in the football community.
