The Jamaica College (JC) Manning Cup team made a strong statement in their opening match of the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association/Digicel Manning Cup competition by dominating Pembroke Hall with a score of 9-0. The game, held at Pembroke Hall, saw JC’s striker Giovannie Taylor shine with a hat-trick, contributing to the team’s confident win.
Taylor scored in the fifth and 45th minutes to give JC a 2-0 lead at halftime. He later netted a third goal in the 80th minute. Nashordo Gibbs also played a pivotal role in the victory with two goals in the 39th and 64th minute. The match was completely one-sided, with JC dominating in every aspect of the game. Pembroke Hall struggled to create any opportunities and failed to put up a fight against the relentless JC side. The second half saw JC picking up the pace and scoring six more goals to secure a comfortable win.
Coach Davion Ferguson expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance but emphasized that there is still room for improvement. He stated that the team’s goal this season is to surpass their quarter-final finish from the previous year.
Ferguson highlighted the experience and maturity of his players, noting that they are ready for a successful season. With a convincing win in their first match, JC aims to maintain their focus on continuous improvement and not get distracted by external factors.
In other results from yesterday’s matches, Hydel defeated Ardenne 9-0, Eltham won against Clan Carthy 5-0, Ascot beat Bridgeport 1-0, and St George’s College emerged victorious over Holy Trinity with a 2-0 scoreline.
