Derrick Scott’s Song ‘God Answers Prayers’ Tops South Florida Reggae Chart
Derrick Scott, a talented musician from Linstead, fulfilled his childhood dream when his song ‘God Answers Prayers’ topped the South Florida Reggae Chart. The song, produced by Willie Lindo, emphasizes the power of faith in God and has resonated with music lovers.
Scott, who started his music career in the late 1980s, received a prestigious plaque from veteran broadcaster Clinton Lindsay to commemorate the success of ‘God Answers Prayers.’ Lindsay, who has been compiling the chart for over 20 years, recognized Scott’s achievement in the music industry.
The song itself is a rendition of Neville “Struggle” Martin’s 1976 classic ‘My Leader Born Yah (The Message),’ which became an anthem for the socialist government of Prime Minister Michael Manley. Scott’s version has struck a chord with listeners for its message of hope and faith.
Hailing from a town known for producing reggae stars like Phyllis Dillon and Tony Curtis, Scott follows in the footsteps of his older brother, Freddie McKay, who had hits like ‘Dance dis Ya Festival’ and ‘Picture on The Wall.’ Scott’s journey in music has also been shaped by his Christian faith, leading him to release four gospel albums and numerous singles.
In a special event scheduled for November 16, Scott will host the ninth Gospel Mission concert at Unity New Testament Church of God in Lauderdale Lakes. The concert will feature performances by Scott, his daughter Kishna, singer Clifford Clarke, and saxophonist Michael Woodstock, backed by the talented Mission Band.
The success of ‘God Answers Prayers’ is not only a milestone for Scott but also a testament to the enduring power of music to inspire and uplift audiences. Scott’s passion for music and his unwavering faith continue to drive his career forward, and his dedication to spreading positivity through his music is truly commendable.
