Tragic Loss: Dancehall Artiste Quick Cook Mourns Father’s Death
In a heart-wrenching incident that has left a family devastated and a community in mourning, Michael ‘Ital’ Lumley, father of dancehall artiste Quick Cook, was tragically shot and killed by unknown assailants in St Mary on Monday night. Lumley, a beloved figure in his community, was 61 years old.
The news came as a crushing blow to Quick Cook, who was overseas when he learned of his father’s untimely death. "The man celebrated his birthday on Sunday, and dem kill him on Heroes Day," an emotional Quick Cook expressed to Observer Online. To him and his siblings, Lumley was more than just a father; he was their hero, a sentiment deeply echoed given that his death occurred a day after his birthday, coinciding with Jamaica’s Heroes Day.
Survived by his six children, four boys and two girls, Lumley is remembered as a dedicated father and a community pillar. "He would die for his children. We were the apple of his eye," Quick Cook shared, emphasizing Lumley’s commitment to his family. Known for his cleanliness, organization, and entrepreneurial spirit, Lumley had a reputation for generosity and kindness, often going out of his way to help others.
The tragic incident unfolded around 7:15 pm when Lumley was reportedly sitting in his yard. According to reports, a silver Toyota Axio approached the property, and two men exited the vehicle, entering the yard before opening fire and fatally wounding Lumley in the left shoulder. The assailants then fled in the vehicle. Despite being rushed to Annotto Bay Hospital, Lumley was pronounced dead. Fortunately, no one else was harmed during the attack.
In the aftermath of his death, Lumley’s family is vehemently denying any claims linking him to gang-related activities. "In the wake of this devastating loss, we are disturbed by the false narrative that has been publicly circulated by the authorities," the family stated in a release. They insisted that Lumley was killed in his home and criticized the baseless assertions that tarnish his peaceful legacy.
The Lumley family is urging for a speedy and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding Michael’s murder. "We believe that only the truth can honor the memory of a man who stood for integrity, justice, and the betterment of his community," they affirmed.
During this somber time, Quick Cook asks for prayers and support from his fans and colleagues, hoping to navigate through what he describes as a “dark time” for their family. As the community grapples with this senseless act of violence, many remember Michael Lumley as a man of peace, whose life and legacy deserve the utmost respect and justice.
