MIAMI, Fla. — Communications provider C&W Communications, the operator of Flow, is mobilizing resources and aid for victims of Hurricane Beryl.
Beryl is currently hurtling through the Caribbean after making landfall on Carriacou as a Category 4 storm with sustained winds of 150 mph, causing devastation in the Windward Islands. It is the strongest known hurricane to pass through the Grenadines, according to NOAA data dating back to 1851.
“Our hearts and thoughts are with our Caribbean brothers and sisters, particularly those in the Windward Islands, including Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines,” C&W Communications CEO Inge Smits said in a press release on Wednesday.
“We recognise the enormous challenges they face and are deeply moved by the strength and resilience they have shown. Their courage and community spirit are truly inspirational and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time,” Smits continued.
The company said it is investing funds through its Cable and Wireless Charitable Foundation to provide shelter and comfort to those who need it most.
Additionally, $400,000 has been allocated to support disaster recovery efforts, including a donation to World Central Kitchen, which will provide immediate relief and long-term assistance.
“World Central Kitchen is known for its rapid response to deliver meals to those in need, especially during emergencies. Together, we will work to provide nutritious meals to the most vulnerable individuals and families affected by Hurricane Beryl,” said Smits.
To further support affected communities, the company is providing free data to its prepaid mobile users and has also suspended disconnections for its postpaid users.
“As expected, our network has been impacted by this terrible storm, but we will build back better and stronger. We have been operating in the Caribbean for over a century and have the experience, so we are well equipped and ready to respond to this adversity,” Smits said.
“And to the Northern Caribbean communities in Beryl’s path, particularly Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, we assure you that we stand with you and will provide support and assistance in every way we can,” she added.
