Kingston, Jamaica — A 19-year-old construction worker from Denham Town, West Kingston, has been formally accused of engaging in sexual activity with a 13-year-old female student. The accused, identified as Jashawn Brown, who is also known by the moniker ‘Likkle Rat,’ faces charges of having sexual intercourse with a minor under the age of 16.
The alleged incidents are reported to have taken place between September 30, 2023, and July 11, 2024. According to sources, Brown initially met the young student on the popular social media platform Instagram. Their online interaction escalated into a friendship which, over time, reportedly transformed into an illicit intimate relationship.
It is alleged that the minor visited Brown’s residence on two separate occasions during which they engaged in sexual intercourse. The matter came to the attention of law enforcement after a report was made, prompting an official investigation.
Authorities acted upon a witness statement that implicated Brown, and he was subsequently charged following an interview conducted in the presence of his attorney. The charges underscore the serious nature of the accusations and highlight ongoing concerns about the exploitation of minors via social media platforms.
This case has amplified discussions about the responsibilities of social media platforms in protecting younger users and the importance of monitoring online interactions. The story serves as yet another reminder for communities to remain vigilant in safeguarding vulnerable populations, especially minors.
Further court proceedings are expected as the case progresses, bringing legal scrutiny and community focus on the pressing issues of child safety and online exploitation.
