Mark Golding to Engage with Jamaican-Canadian Diaspora in Toronto
Kingston, Jamaica — In a strategic move to fortify ties with the Jamaican-Canadian diaspora, Opposition Leader and President of the People’s National Party (PNP), Mark Golding, is set to visit Toronto from October 30 to November 1, 2024. This visit is part of Golding’s ongoing initiative to engage Jamaicans abroad, who he considers vital cultural ambassadors and advocates for change.
The visit, themed “Vision for Jamaica’s Future – Engagement with the Diaspora”, aims to highlight Golding’s dedication to reinforcing connections with the global Jamaican community, which mirrors the population of Jamaicans residing on the island. Under his leadership since 2020, Golding has prioritized overseas engagements, recognizing the diaspora’s significant role in Jamaica’s socio-economic development. His previous international outreach included visits to the United States and the United Kingdom in 2022.
A key highlight of the visit is a town hall meeting scheduled for October 30 at the Jamaican Canadian Centre. This platform will allow attendees to participate in open discussions regarding Jamaica’s trajectory and the essential contributions of the diaspora in crafting the nation’s future. The engagement will culminate with a cocktail dinner on November 1 at the Westin Toronto Airport, providing a more intimate setting for dialogue.
Both events are accessible to the public; however, attendees must register in advance to secure their participation.
Golding’s visit underscores a commitment to fostering a robust relationship with Jamaicans living abroad, enhancing their involvement in Jamaica’s progression and policy developments.
