Adalberto Carrasquilla from Panama and Melchie Dumornay from Haiti have been named as the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football’s (CONCACAF) Men’s and Women’s Players of the Year, respectively. The announcement was made following a vote involving coaches, players, media, and supporters based on their performances over the 2023-24 season.
Carrasquilla, who plays for the Houston Dynamo in Major League Soccer, played a pivotal role in Panama’s success in reaching the Gold Cup final in 2023 and making it to the semi-finals of the CONCACAF Nations League. He also contributed to the Dynamo winning the US Open Cup title and reaching the MLS Western Conference final.
On the other hand, Dumornay, who plays for Lyon in France, became the first Haitian to win the award and the second Caribbean woman after Jamaica’s Khadija Shaw won it last year. She showcased her talent by representing Haiti in the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, emerging as the top scorer in the CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup and also receiving the prestigious UEFA Women’s Champions League Young Player of the Year award.
These outstanding players have demonstrated exceptional skill and talent on the field, making them deserving recipients of the CONCACAF Players of the Year awards. Congratulations to Adalberto Carrasquilla and Melchie Dumornay for their remarkable achievements in the world of football.
