Montego Bay United (MBU) Chairman, Yoni Epstein, is optimistic that the mistakes that led to the team missing out on the playoffs in the last Jamaica Premier League (JPL) season will not be repeated. As the team prepares for their opening fixture against Vere Phoenix United, Epstein expressed confidence in the team’s offseason preparations, stating that they are in a stronger position than at the start of last season.
Reflecting on last season, Epstein acknowledged the challenges faced by the team as they narrowly missed out on the playoffs, finishing seventh with 43 points. However, he emphasized that significant improvements have been made during the offseason, both on and off the field. Epstein highlighted the strong transfer window the club had, adding depth to the squad and securing key signings such as Demario Phillips and Shaniel Thomas.
With Argentine Rodolfo Zapata taking charge as head coach for the upcoming season, Epstein is hopeful that his style of play, discipline, and motivation will have a positive impact on the team. Additionally, Epstein stressed the importance of youth development as a key objective for the club, aiming to nurture talent from grassroots level to eventually see players matriculate into the MBU squad and beyond.
As the team gears up for the new season, Epstein’s vision is clear – to not only strive for JPL title success but also to focus on developing talent for long-term sustainability. With a strong foundation laid during the offseason and a motivated squad ready to execute on the field, Montego Bay United is poised for a successful campaign ahead.
