Dancehall Icons Beenie Man and Bounty Killer Honored at National Ceremony in Jamaica
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The atmosphere was filled with excitement and pride as dancehall legends Beenie Man and Bounty Killer arrived on Monday morning for the prestigious Ceremony of Investiture and Presentation of National Honours and Awards. The event took place at the National Indoor Sports Arena in Kingston, where the two iconic reggae artists joined 150 distinguished honourees.
Beenie Man, whose real name is Moses Davis, expressed his enthusiasm as he made his way to the venue, accompanied by his family, including his entertainer daughter Desha and his fiancé Camille Lee. "I am feeling very great this morning," Davis shared with Observer Online reporters, clearly basking in the significance of the occasion.
Bounty Killer, born Rodney Price, mirrored his contemporary’s sentiments. Describing his feelings as "awesome, elated, (and) excited," Price spoke of the honor and recognition from his homeland, acknowledging the special moment in his storied career.
Both artists were recipients of the Order of Distinction (Officer Class), Jamaica’s fifth-highest national honor. This recognition reflects their immense contributions to the dancehall and reggae music scenes, where they have consistently showcased Jamaican culture on the global stage.
In addition to Beenie Man and Bounty Killer, the entertainment industry was further represented by other notable figures receiving the Order of Distinction. Renowned singer Nadine Sutherland, pioneering deejay Glendon "Admiral Bailey" Bailey, esteemed opera singer Dr. Curtis Watson, and acclaimed actress Audrey Reid were all honored for their significant contributions to their respective fields.
