NEW YORK, USA (AFP) — Bruce Springsteen, the iconic guitar-hero poet behind timeless hits such as “The River,” has officially become a billionaire, with Forbes estimating his fortune at $1.1 billion as of Friday.
Springsteen’s substantial wealth consolidation in recent years is largely attributed to the notable sale of his music catalog to Sony in 2021, which fetched an estimated $500 million. This deal is a significant contributor to his billionaire status, alongside his Broadway success and ongoing world tour scheduled to run until 2025.
According to industry research firm Pollstar, Springsteen sold over 1.6 million concert tickets in 2023, generating a staggering $380 million in revenue. Despite being 74 years old, the “Dancing in the Dark” singer shows no signs of slowing down.
Renowned for his poignant songs that resonate with underdogs and the working class, Springsteen has sold 140 million albums worldwide, making him one of the best-selling musicians of all time. His achievements also include induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, winning 20 Grammy Awards, and one Academy Award.
Springsteen is set to be the subject of an upcoming biopic, where Jeremy Allen White of “The Bear” fame will portray him. His legendary marathon shows, including a record-setting performance lasting over four hours in Helsinki in 2012, further cement his status in the music industry.
With this achievement, Springsteen joins the ranks of other music industry heavyweights who have reached billionaire status, including Rihanna, Jay-Z, and Taylor Swift.
