Kingston, Jamaica – The Born to Shine Talent Search has officially crowned its inaugural winners, with an exciting twist: the competition also awarded a runner-up prize.
Vanoy Chambers, also known as Spikey, from Litchfield District, Mile Gully, Manchester, walked away with $1 million and an exclusive recording contract. The runner-up, Ginelle “TrapQween” Gordon from Hanover, delivered an impressive performance that captivated the audience, earning her $500,000.
The event, held in Mandeville on January 24, was a resounding success, drawing talent from all over the island and even attracting attendees from the USA, Canada, and the UK.
Texroy Elliott and Erika Vassell, the visionaries behind Born to Shine, expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated and attended. “We were overwhelmed by the response—hundreds of people registered and even more showed up hoping for a chance to showcase their talent. It was clear that Jamaica is bursting with untapped potential,” Elliott told the Observer Online.
A special thank you went out to the esteemed panel of judges—dancehall icon Bounty Killer, seasoned industry veteran Steel Chest, and dynamic DJ Mac—who brought their expertise and keen eye for talent to the competition. Their invaluable feedback and industry experience played a pivotal role in selecting the winners and inspiring the next generation of Jamaican artistes.
The event was further energized by show-stopping performances from Kraff, Xkappe, and a surprise guest appearance by Fresh King, adding to the unforgettable night of entertainment.
Due to the overwhelming demand, Born to Shine Talent Search is hitting the road, bringing auditions to different parishes across Jamaica. The competition will culminate in a grand showcase in Kingston on January 24, 2026.
“Everyone was born to shine—keep showing up, believing in yourself, and your time to shine will come,” Vassell said.
