KINGSTON, Jamaica — Reggae artist Anthony B is gearing up for a triumphant return to the stage following a serious health scare that led to life-threatening surgery. The performer is slated to make his comeback at the Reggae on the River show in California on Friday.
Anthony B, known for hits like “Fire Pon Rome,” was forced to cancel his performance at Reggae Sumfest last month due to a severe abdominal condition. The illness, which was later diagnosed as a perforated intestine, required urgent surgical intervention.
In a heartfelt video posted on Instagram, Anthony B recounted the harrowing experience. “I had terrible pain in my stomach. I went to the hospital, and they told me I had a hole in my stomach, and something was leaking into my body, so I had to go straight to the emergency room and have emergency surgery,” he said.
Doctors at the University Hospital of the West Indies performed a complex surgery, which lasted between nine to ten hours. Anthony B was in a coma for 48 hours post-operation. He expressed profound gratitude towards the medical staff for their expertise and care. “I went to the hospital just after 12 o’clock on July 18, and I didn’t wake up until July 20. When I woke up, I realized everything my body had gone through. They put hoses everywhere, and that’s why I’m here alive and I’m grateful,” he shared.
The artist’s recovery has been a testament to his strength and resilience. He used the opportunity to reflect on the fragility of life and express his thanks to the “Most High God” for his continued existence. “Nobody knows the minutes, nobody knows the seconds. We are here because of the grace and mercy of the Creator of all,” Anthony B said.
He also extended his gratitude to Joseph Bogdanovich and Cordell ‘Skatta’ Burrell of Reggae Sumfest, along with his family, for their unwavering support during his difficult time.
Fans can look forward to his powerful comeback performance at Reggae on the River, where Anthony B is expected to bring renewed energy and gratitude to the stage.
