National Rum Day was celebrated on Friday, August 16, and the occasion was marked with a unique event at Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel’s Regency Room. The event, named ‘Still’, featured a five-course rum-inspired dinner crafted by Chef Mathieu Masson-Duceppe, the winner of Chopped Canada Season 2 and executive chef of Montreal restaurants Jellyfish Crudo et Charbon and the Pubjelly.
The evening was a showcase of culinary brilliance as 30 guests were treated to a journey through the vibrant and complex flavors of Jamaica, reimagined with Chef Masson-Duceppe’s culinary expertise. The menu featured dishes like Tomato Lobster Carpaccio made with Hampden 8-Year-Old rum, Cauliflower Tempura with Worthy Park Single Estate Reserve, Plantain Gnocchi & Oxtail paired with Cacao Cane Rum Old Fashioned, and a decadent Crème Brûlée with Molasses infused with Hampden 8-Year-Old rum.
The carefully crafted dishes were thoughtfully paired with cocktails made with rums from Hampden Estate and Worthy Park Estate, ensuring that each course was a delightful experience for the taste buds. Guests were treated not only to exquisite food and drinks but also to the rich history and culture of Jamaican rum, shared by experts like Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel Marketing Director Matthew Hann and Hampden Estate Tour Manager Mossi “Peppie” Grant.
The evening was a true celebration of Jamaican rum, bringing together a community of rum enthusiasts, makers, bartenders, chefs, and drinkers who all share a deep appreciation for the spirit. It was a night to remember, filled with laughter, good company, and, of course, plenty of rum! Cheers to National Rum Day and the vibrant world of Jamaican rum!
