CLARENDON, Jamaica — In a decisive move to restore order and peace, a 48-hour curfew has been enforced across several communities in Clarendon, Jamaica. The curfew comes on the heels of a state of public emergency that was declared for the entire parish and will affect areas such as Western Park, Cherry Tree Lane, Havannah Heights, Treadlight, and York Town.
The curfew, which commenced at 6:00 am on Wednesday, August 28, will remain in effect until 6:00 am on Friday, August 30. This directive follows a deadly attack by gunmen at Cherry Tree Lane on Sunday, August 11, stirring concerns of public safety and prompting government action.
Affected Areas and Boundaries
Western Park:
- North: A dirt track crossing from the Garvey and Treadlight Streets intersection to the Treadlight Common and Red Square intersection.
- East: A dirt track from Treadlight Common and Red Square to Harris Street and Eve Terrace.
- South: Eve Terrace Street extending from Eve Terrace and Harris Street to Evans Drive and Western Park Road intersection.
- West: Evans Drive and Treadlight Road stretching from Evans Drive and Western Park Road intersection to Garvey Street and Treadlight Street intersection.
Cherry Tree Lane:
- North: Along an imaginary line stretching approximately 597 metres on Muirhead Avenue.
- East: Along an imaginary line extending from Muirhead Avenue to Bustamante Highway.
- South: Following an imaginary line along Bustamante Highway.
- West: From Bustamante Highway back to Muirhead Avenue along an imaginary line.
Havannah Heights:
- North: Dirt track from ‘Welcome to Woodside Community’ sign to an unfinished concrete dwelling at the track’s end near the train line.
- East: Havannah Heights to Woodside Roadway from ‘Welcome to Woodside Community’ sign to Jacob Hut near the train line intersection.
- South: Train line running from Jacob Hut intersection near the train line to a one-bedroom concrete structure along the gully bank.
- West: Imaginary line along the gully and train line from the said concrete structure to an unfinished concrete dwelling at the dirt track’s end near the train line.
Treadlight:
- North: Imaginary line running 1926 metres to North Street and West Park Avenue intersection.
- East: Imaginary line extending 860 metres to the vegetated area.
- South: Imaginary line traveling 1920 metres within the vegetated area.
- West: Imaginary line traveling 830 metres from the vegetated area back to North Street and West Park Avenue intersection.
York Town:
- North: Imaginary line spanning five kilometres from Comfort Road to York Town.
- East: Imaginary line extending three kilometres from York Town to Parnassus.
- South: Imaginary line running seven kilometres from Rhymesbury to Parnassus.
- West: Imaginary line extending one kilometre from Rhymesbury back to Comfort.
Curfew Regulations
Under the stipulations of the curfew, all residents within the delineated boundaries are mandated to stay on their premises unless expressly authorised by the ground commander.
