KINGSTON, Jamaica — In a significant breakthrough, a 22-year-old man has been formally charged in connection with the January 2023 murder of a 35-year-old taxi operator.
The accused, Kemany Jones, also known by his alias ‘Kiddy’, is a construction worker from Bobo Hill, Nine Miles, Bull Bay, St Andrew. His arrest and subsequent charging are part of an ongoing investigation led by detectives from the Kingston East Police Division.
Jones faces multiple charges, including the murder of Leon Lindsay, a 33-year-old resident of Taylor Land, Nine Miles, Bull Bay, St Andrew. The charges against him extend to using a firearm to commit a felony, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of ammunition, and conspiracy to commit murder.
According to police reports, the incident occurred around 11:30 pm, when Lindsay was seated in his motor car at the aforementioned location. Jones, along with another man, allegedly approached Lindsay armed with firearms and opened fire. Following the shooting, the suspects fled the scene. Upon arrival, police found Lindsay lying in a pool of blood with gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation, which followed the initial report, led police to conduct a targeted operation at a residence in Bobo Hill, culminating in Jones’s arrest. He was formally charged on September 6 after undergoing a question and answer session in the presence of his attorney.
Details regarding Jones’s court date are currently being finalized.
This arrest marks a significant step forward in the efforts to combat violent crime in the parish and bring perpetrators to justice. The investigation remains ongoing.
