Jamaican athletes Wayne Pinnock and Rasheed Broadbell are among the 14 Jamaican athletes aiming to secure spots in the upcoming Diamond League finals in Brussels. The athletes will be competing at the Weltklasse in Zurich, the 14th stop on the Diamond League circuit.
The Diamond League, which has been ongoing since April, sees athletes accumulate points throughout the season to qualify for the finals. Winners of each of the 32 disciplines at the finals will receive the prestigious Diamond trophy and a prize of US$40,000.
Several Jamaican athletes have already secured their spots in the finals, including Ackeem Blake, Romaine Beckford, Fedrick Dacres, Ackera Nugent, Rushell Clayton, Janieve Russell, Andrenette Knight, Shanieka Ricketts, Danniel Thomas-Dodd, Shericka Jackson, and Hansle Parchment.
In the men’s long jump event, Wayne Pinnock, Carey McLeod, and Tajay Gayle will be looking to solidify their spots in the finals. They will face tough competition from top-ranked Miltiadis Tentoglou and Simon Ehammer.
Rasheed Broadbell, currently ranked number 10, will aim for a top-three finish in the men’s long jump to secure his place in the finals. He will compete against Olympic champion Grant Holloway and other top athletes.
Other Jamaican athletes, including Lamar Distin, Roshawn Clarke, and Rajindra Campbell, will also be looking to perform well to secure their spots in the finals in their respective events.
